At the age of 16 he was accepted into the prestigious Jr. Program at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. The Magic Castle has become the premiere magic club for magicians from all over the world. He joins us this week on Mystifyed Live to talk about his history in magic and film.
Christopher uses his past experiences to develop his own philosophies on magic, such as The Addams Family series and working alongside David Copperfield. He believes that the art of magic is very technical and relates a performance to that of a live special effect. He advises that you should have the following three things when creating magic or any art form: a good balance of passion, the willingness to change direction and seek help from others. By taking more risks and not being afraid to fail, you will become a better performer and learn more about yourself.

| Magician, Justin Flom |
Thanks to the advancements in technology of the last several years Justin has been able to make quite a name for himself with the help of platforms like YouTube. It has allowed to share his magic with millions of people around the world. Some of his inspiration for creating and performing has come from his father, an amateur conjurer in his own right. Justin believes that there are three types of magic: 1) Magic that has happened. This can be something that the audience doesn't see, such as a prediction. The work is done prior to the people arriving and they only see the end result. 2) Magic that is happening. This is something the spectators can see throughout the performance, such as something floating in mid air. 3) Magic that happens. This is something instant that takes place at a moments notice, like one card changing into another. In addition to his views on performing, he also stresses the importance of making sure you define who you are as person. Once you can do that, try to figure out ways to use elements of your personality and make that part of your magic. Not only will it help make your performances stronger, it will give the spectators something to remember you by.
We had an absolute blast having Justin hang out with us this week. To see a performance of 'A Soldiers Deck of Cards' as well as many other outstanding pieces of magic, hop on over to his official YouTube page. If you would like some more information on Justin Flom, check out his Facebook,

After working primarily in the mid-west he ventured out to Las Vegas in order to connect with a wider variety of entertainers. While in Vegas, the relationships he made allowed him to tap into the creative resources of the local magic community to develop a top-selling magic DVD. Mystifyed Live! Episode 16-- Weseley Hanna
Season 3: Episode 16
Las Vegas Magician, Mentalist and Magic Consultant, Weseley Hanna, has a very unique approach to the world of magic. He wants his audiences to be engaged and provide them with an experience that is beyond that of the typical entertainer. His knowledge of magic and of human interaction gives him a well-rounded repertoire with which he can amaze.
Weseley joined us on-set this holiday weekend for a look into his mind and his passion. With the belief that a strong emotional connection is key to engaging his audience, evoking these intense feelings allows people to be more invested in the magic. Now that the audience is along for the ride, he connects those feelings with a memorable story. He then takes those two characteristics and introduces the props that will give the magic life. By giving each of those steps their own individualized attention, it allows for a creation that is more than your standard routine.
What makes him such a brilliant thinker is his ability to take a traditional act and incorporate a twist that catches his spectators completely off guard. He believes that by taking away the expectancy in the presentation, the magic then becomes more meaningful.
We here at Mystifyed Live want to thank Weseley for spending some time with us and sharing his philosophy on the world of entertainment. He certainly offers a refreshing perspective. For more about him connect on Facebook or follow him on Twitter @MentalWes. To consult with him go to MentalWes.com.

Mystifyed Live! Episode 15-- David Parr
Season 3: Episode 15
Magician, Actor and Author, David Parr, is more than just a performer. He is also the creator of the Magic Cabaret in Chicago, Illinois. He has also written two highly acclaimed books for magicians, lectured at magic conventions around the country and still finds time to explore other theatrical projects. When he is not performing you can find him around the city giving Haunted History tours, and providing people with an inside look at Edgar Allan Poe with his own interactive show, Visions of Poe. His love of history and how it blends with magic drives him to create a truly incredible theatrical experience.
Chicago has such a deep-rooted history with magic that most people are not very connected to it. When David started The Magic Cabaret six years ago, it was his goal to bring back the classic Chicago-style of magic and allow a new generation of audience to see it. He wanted to develop a show that was strongly influenced by the intimacy and participatory nature of those parlor shows that helped define the art within the city. The show now runs every Wednesday night at the Greenhouse Theater Center and features some of the best magic in the area.
In what ended up being a very strong experience for both the audience and our guest, we heard of how human emotion can contribute to an act and make it's own magic. After performing a seance piece at a party, members of the audience were so affected by what happened, that each person had a different account of what took place that evening. It was just his job to create the atmosphere and give the guests something to remember the party by; but what ended up happening was something he nor the party-goers will ever forget.

In the fast paced world of entertainment it is important to always stay true to who you are. Murray and his crew stressed the ideas of being unique and doing things your own way. Mystifyed Live! Episode 11-- Irving Quant
Season 3: Episode 11
Master Card Magician and Magic Creator Irving Quant takes pride in everything that he does. Much like former guest Paul Vigil, Irving uses his magic to create one-of-a-kind moments that stand alone in time. He wants people to experience more than just a magic trick. His attention to detail not only in his performances, but also in the way he teaches shows how dedicated he is to making his magic truly a special moment. This week on Mystifyed Live we got to chat with the man behind the magic.
Irving wasted no time getting into his love for card magic. His love is not just the act of performing with them, but everything about the cards themselves. Giving spectators something to focus on such as the images on the cards adds a deeper meaning and value to what is being performed. What some magicians may think that it's just another card trick, Irving sees a chance to further expand on a seemingly endless ocean of material.
It was interesting to hear Irving talk about tailoring magic. Tailoring magic is creating the presentation for the right audience in the right setting. You wouldn't put a bar magician on a stage and expect him to do his regular routine.

Mystifyed Live! Episode 6-- Joe Diamond
Season 3 Episode 6
From his early days performing in his hometown of Chicago to predicting the 2011 Oscars live on the radio, magician Joe Diamond has made quite the name for himself and he is only in his twenties. His story began as simply as many other magicians. A magic set lead to so much more than just a box of tricks. You may recognize him as good friend and mentor of magician Bill Cook in the award-winning documentary "Make Believe". We were lucky enough to have Joe join us this week on Mystifyed Live to talk about what he has been up to.
Over the years magic has evolved as an art form. In the example Joe used things like Harry Potter presenting magic in a way that the current generation of audiences can relate to. So when magicians are able to create routines and effects that seem similar to things like this, it allows the newer generation to connect to the material better. This is another reason why Joe believes that all of his material can be performed for almost any audience. By making these connections it gives more meaning to the magic.

Joe describes himself as sincere, comfortable and strange. To get an idea of the kind of person Joe is, he spoke about a reaction he got after doing his Ambitious Card routine for a couple, they simply shook his hand and said "Thank you. That made our day." It is this kind of primitive connection with his audience, that he cherishes. We would like to thank Joe for joining us this week. What Inspires YOU?
Inspiration: It is all around us.
Everything we see, everything we hear, even the people we interact
with can be used as a driving force to create something beautiful. One question that we ask many of our guests is, "What inspires you?"
In music, sound is the basis for
their art form. But when you ask musicians
what inspires them to create specific compositions, the answers can be as
diverse as the music itself. Life experiences, both positive and
negative, tend to have a large affect on the songs that a they
write.
To a magician, what is more powerful than taking something ordinary and making it do something extraordinary? One of our recent guests, Ivan Amodei spoke of how his family is the catalyst behind his creativity. He even told a story about how they were all out together at a local deli and just looking at a map gave him a new idea.
Inspiration can come from many different places at the most unexpected of times. Former guest Sean O'Shea sometimes even turning to horror movies can serve as one of his inspirations.

Below is the video of Paul's performance live on our show.
With the belief that close-up is the future of magic, it is clear that Paul wants to take the art above and beyond where people think it can go. We are so grateful that Paul took time out of his whirlwind schedule to be with us this week. We hope that if you are ever in Las Vegas that you head on over to the Mirage on Wednesday night and experience Paul's magic for yourself. The Legacy of Mentoring
![]() |
| Dai "The Professor" Vernon (1894-1992) |
The current mentor/ student relationship in magic is like that of an exotic tiger -- nearly extinct. In this age of YouTube and multimedia learning, the mentor is a dying breed in every branch of art and entertainment. We always hear about the good ole days where in order to advance in the art of magic you needed someone to show you the way. Someone to pass the proverbial wand, and show you the secrets passed down from master to student for centuries. Nowadays, with the masses of resources available, magic has taken an almost cliché role in the world.

| Wilfred "Bill" Pratt |
No matter what art form you practice, please remember there is always someone who looks up to you. Don't be afraid to take someone under your wing and help shape them into the performer they want to be. Respect your art, respect the artistic community, and above all respect yourself. If we can all do that, the performing arts will never die.
This blog post is dedicated to the memory of magician Wilfred "Bill" Pratt. A mentor, friend, and colleague of so many. We break a wand in your honor: Fallen but never forgotten.

Mystifyed Live! Episode 4-- Justin Miller
Season 3: Episode 4
If you are a magician you probably have heard the name Justin Miller before. If you are a 'muggle' you are going to want to find out what you can about him. From his beginnings in Vegas at age 19 to working with some of the biggest names in the magic business, Justin Miller has done it all. From performing to creating some of today's hottest selling magic effects, Justin Miller is a man of many magical skills.
It was a pleasure to welcome Justin back to Mystifyed Live for a second time. When we last spoke with him his effect Legend had just been released and he stopped by to hang out with us and talk about his up coming collaborations. Here we are just about a year later having just released his new effect Creeper. We also learned how he managed to, without even thinking about it, create and fool someone with his own homemade magic method. It was only later on in life that he began to create some of his more well known effects and it launched him directly into the forefront of the magic world.
When it came time for the audience to ask Justin some questions of their own, and nothing was off limits, we heard everything from magic to mastering life. While a majority of this part of the show steered away from magic Justin offered some of the most profound statements regarding life, love and living that we have heard in a long time. We then asked Miller to describe himself using only three words. Inquisitive, mysterious, and believe it or not, he was not able to come up with a third word. So we ask you, our readers and fans to leave a comment with a word that you would use to best describe Justin. This portion of the show truly gives you a glimpse into just how far beyond magic Justin can go.
